Dissertation introduction – make a good start

How important is a dissertation introduction? Read on to find out

Writing a dissertation introduction is as important as a person’s first impression at an interview. If you are going to give the reader the impression that you do not know much about what you’re saying in an intro that is not written too well, it indicates that your writing is not going to be very good either. This is certainly not the best of ways to begin any piece of work. Putting your best foot forward, as the saying goes, applies here too. Make an impression that is both lasting as well as good, on the person who is going to assess and evaluate your thesis or dissertation.

Essentials of a good introduction –

-    A clearly defined thesis statement – do not get all worked up trying to word a thesis statement well. We could help you with this and a lot more, if you could call us and let us know your area of difficulty. This is possible only if you have taken sufficient time to select a topic that you will do really well. The quality of your dissertation writing depends to a large extent on the knowledge you have on the topic you have chosen. So, choose wisely.
-    Small paragraphs to indicate the general course of your writing. You could have your entire dissertation in a concise form – in other words, you are conveying to the reader, the way in which you intend doing the research that you have planned. You are also indicating the result that you envisage at the end of the whole thing.
-    Do not make your intro too long. It would mislead the reader and make him or her wonder whether you really know what you are talking about. Instead of having a lengthy dissertation introduction, briefly explain your points and mention that you will do a detailed explanation in the chapters that follow.
-    A clear indication of the number of the chapters and what each chapter would focus on is necessary in any intro. This makes the reader realize that you are aware of the scope of the work involved and you know how to go about it as well.
-    The language you use in the intro should be a precursor to what you will be using in the remaining chapters. If the language is a little too fancy, the assessor might think that you are using it in order to disguise the fact that you really have very little info to write about.
-    Do not fill up your intro with too many quotations. One or two quotes might be suitable, but anything more might become a bit awkward – so watch out on this too.

Instead of boring yourself to death over the writing of a dissertation introduction, hand the job over to us. We could provide you with the best possible intro that you could get for the topic that you are going to work on. We can assure you of a confidential piece of work that will fulfill all the requirements that you have.
