In terms of lakes, you firstly have to see it and presumably, in seeing it, you will know the environment. If it is a known lake to you, you will be happy with the environment you are in by the time you decide that jumping in is an acceptable next step. Once you are happy with the extraneous details, you will assess the lake. Is it deep? Are there unexpected, potentially dangerous things lurking underneath, ready to trap you and drag you down. Is the lake clean? All these things are considered before you take that first dip. Maybe they are considered in an instant or over some time, but we consciously, or subconsciously make these assessments just because our lives are fairly important to us to want to ensure we don’t throw it away thoughtlessly.

The idea of having an essay outline is all in the planning and structuring of your essay. Having an essay plan is critical. When given a topic to write about, you need to know in what sequence you are going to write your material. If you have a range of interesting, persuasive facts or opinions to explore, then you’ll ruin the impact with poor planning; it could be the difference between an A and a D grade! This outline, or plan, involves having a clear introduction that sets out the purpose of the essay. This then dictates the rest of the essay, tying you to those parameters in your main points and arguments. For an argument essay or not, present your points and examine them in detail one after the other. Do not mix up the discussion of more than one point. This is a classic symptom of poor or absent planning. Three points is usually the safe amount to ensure balance and thoroughness of examination, presenting the pro points and then the counter points one after the other.
If you have an essay outline at the outset, there should be no reason to feel that your essay structure has been poorly constructed and if that can be avoided, it is likely that you have examined your points relevantly and clearly and whether your essay is for your Masters dissertation or something less esteemed, this can only benefit you.
