Attributes of a good essay writer
Saturday, January 9th, 2010A good thinker, writer and reader – an essay writer is a combination of all these… and more!
A good essay writer is one who can cope with just any kind of topic, at the drop of a hat. A person could be skilled in doing all sorts of work, but there is no doubt that for essay writing capabilities, he or she should be mentally alert and observant. There are quite a few characteristics or attributes that a good writer of essays should demonstrate.
A few favored attributes:
- The ability to write on just about anything – whether it is a serious subject like global warming or a light hearted and jocular look at the antics of a three year old child, the writer needs to be at ease.
- Great presence of mind is required while writing an essay. Though all essays needs to be well planned and then written out, it is important to be aware of the need of the hour and contribute the right kind of input to make an interesting essay.
- Language skills – it is not enough if the person is good in oratorical skills. There are quite a few people who could wax eloquent on a subject if they are asked to. However, these very same people would probably run a mile when asked to write an essay. This is because the written word is not something that they are very comfortable with. It could also be that they are too lazy to make the effort to sit down and pen a few words.
- Updated knowledge – it is not very common to find that all essay writers need to concentrate on subjects that have been worked upon already. You will find that they have to write with a fresh insight on these subjects that were done. For this, it is important that the essayist is quite conversant with all that has happened in the recent past, on this particular subject. If this is not so, it is possible that he will come up with an essay that is not only boring, but it is also repetitive. There is a danger that he could be accused of producing old wine in a new bottle. This is the worst thing that could happen to any writer, be it of essays or otherwise. Therefore updating knowledge of your subject and a lot of other things is vital to the existence of a good essayist.
Once an essay writer understands the demands of his work, he will be able to go ahead and complete his work in time. Apart from the attributes that are mentioned above, it is important for him to be in touch with all that goes on around him. Writing on a particular subject is not possible if you are not prepared to read around the whole issue. For instance, if the essay had to focus on the GCSE school curriculum and its merits and demerits, it would be relevant for the essay writer to read up on the other curriculum as well. A broad based knowledge is important to write well.
