GED Essay topic

Learning to address GED essay topics

GED essay topicWriting a GED essay is no different from writing a college application essay- both writing assignments aim at cohesive writing about personal characteristics and opinions blended with issues of common interest. It is also a common form of writing exercise in high school essay contest,  coursework and other essay writing assignments a student sits for during his/her school years. When practicing for GED writing test, learning to address the GED essay topic should be of prime importance. Whether you have the choice of topic or not, either way, there is a room for coming up with a brilliant essay if you follow our tips on essay writing.

Step 1

Read the essay questions and pick the keywords: many people jump at the essay topic without carefully analysing its requirements. Such attempts soil all the chances of coming up with a relevant essay, no matter how well it is constructed and formatted. The keywords, for instance, describe, evaluate, analyse, and comment; are the building blocks that determine the genre, content, tone and substance of an essay.

Step 2

Brainstorm a fresh approach to the GED essay topics: steer your thoughts away from the obvious and come up with essay ideas that are unique and personal. for instance, When writing an essay on the GED essay topic about the influence a person have had in your life, you need not plunge into the description of a super hero or a person extraordinaire who changed your vision. Your role model could be a person next door, a rag picker or a classmate.

Step 3

Choose the essay question apropos to your qualities, interests and writing skills: If you have the choice of topic, why not use it your aid? Pick the essay question that can best exhibit your talent.

Step 4

Structure and outline your essay by mind mapping and organising techniques: pre planning an essay leaves you with ample time to proofread your essay later. Use various mind mapping techniques like flow charts, pie charts, Venn diagrams to organise ideas and ensure connectivity and smooth flow of information.

Step 5

Write a final draft of your essay: once you have an essay template that records the flow of ideas to be included in the essay, write your final draft.

Step 6

Edit and proofread the essay: ensure you are left with ample time to proofread your essay. Check your essay for grammatical error, logical lapses, sentence construction and formatting.

The above mentioned writing process can be applied when you write essays on GED essay topics selected by you and approved by your tutor. However, it may include researching the essay questions common to the GED examination over the last years. For more information regarding the examination and the ways to prepare for it, get in touch with our essay experts who have had years if experience assisting GED applicants.
