Write Essay: Proofreading Tips

Irrespective of the time we put when we write essay  assignments, right from looking for the essay topic, conducting research and finally writing the first essay draft, we are all liable to make errors. A good and effective proofreading helps an essay writer produce professional and error free assignments.

Students writing essay assignments or dissertation for submission often miss out on the most vital aspect when you write essay: Proofreading. The reasons for ignoring such an important aspect of essay writing process is not necessarily the lack of time or the carelessness, many times it is either a logical lapse that the writer fails to see because it seems obvious to him/her or tricky grammatical errors, that are common to them.

The most productive way to error free assignments is to become conscious of the mistakes that are common to you in particular and to all writers, in general. This article highlights some of the common proofreading errors to look for in your dissertation or assignment-

Logical Lapses: There are many types of fallacies a writer can fall prey to. Fallacies are logical arguments which are unreasonable or impractical. When writing a critical essay on a topic for which the writer has strong opinions, he/she is liable to succumb to prejudices and stereotypes and make a logical flaw in the argument.

Grammatical errors:  No matter how good you are at language or sentence formation, every writer has some error patterns that he/she is accustomed to. When writing impromptu or in a prescribed time, writers tend to speed up their writing with thinking, making sentences complex and ambiguous. Some of the common grammatical errors that are common to complex sentences are discussed below-

Subject Verb disagreement: This is a common mistake that occurs in a complex sentence as the subject and the verb are placed at length. It occurs when the verb in the sentence does not agree with the subject in terms of number and usage.

For example: One of theses books are mine.

Edited: One of these Books is mine.

Dangling Modifier: When the adjective or the subject clause is placed at length from the subject, it leads to ambiguity.

For Example: He shot the tiger sitting in the room.

Edited: He, sitting in the room, shot the tiger.

Typos and Spellings:  When writing a dissertation on Word, you may not be prompted for words that are spelled correctly but positioned wrong in a sentence. Some of the common errors of these kinds are in words like: their/they’re/there; too/two/to;  etc.

Punctuation: When writing complex sentences that have clauses that modify a subject or a verb, make sure the clauses are put in commas and placed near to the word it modifies. Use period when there is complete sentence. Make sure to use recurrent commas when writing short sentences.

When you write essays and submit them without careful editing and proofreading, you run at the chances of getting a low grade. If you are running close to deadline, we can offer you professional proofreading services at a reasonable price.
