When writing an analytical essay, you may at times have to move beyond supplying information and analyzing it to taking sides and win the reader round to your view. Such essays are called polemical essays and are common in academic writing. While in an analytical essay you will be expected to analyze and examine an aspect of work, for example ‘The Symbolism in Eliot’s the Wasteland’, in polemical essay you will have to examine a particular aspect, for example ‘The Symbolism in Eliot’s Wasteland makes the poem complex’.
